Holden has announced a Cruze recall in Australia as a precaution after Chevrolet Cruze models were recalled in the US.
It said 9,547 Australian-built MY12 and MY13 Cruze models with a 1.4-litre petrol engines would be recalled due to a fire risk.
Holden warned in some instances the lower air deflector could catch oil dripping from the engine if an oil change were not done properly.
It said there was a fire danger if the oil made contact with hot engine parts.
Holden has confirmed there had been no reported cases of engine compartment fires in Australia.
Holden official Craig Porritt said any risk appeared low.
“We believe Australia’s high standards in servicing procedures significantly reduce the risk of improper oil changes which almost eliminates the risk of a thermal incident,” he said.
Holden is contacting customers and will modify the lower air deflector under the engine.
It said car owners could get more information on 1800 632 826.
