A mate of mine asked the other day what do I do about spam email? My answer = nothing.
As I have already posted, I use SPAMFIGHTER and AVG software to help me fight the ever present scourge that is spam and viruses.
On the average day, over 1,000 emails are dynamically sent to one of 3 folders.. SPAMfighter (spam), Junk E-mail and AVG Virus Vault.
Once a week, I move the emails from these folders into my Deleted Items folder and then delete the lot permanently.
Here is how I look at it.
If I was to go through each and every email looking for good emails, I’d never get any work done.
This automated process free’s up as much as 2 hours a day of productive time.
If I were to go through the spam, I may be tempted to reply, and castigate the spammer… never, ever, ever reply.
Replying to a spammer
- Tells them your email address is good
- The spammer never ever ever cares what you say
- You have just wasted precious time
By not responding, means the spammer will continue to junk mail you. Great, send them off to spam folders. Protect other innocent parties who the spammer is yet to find.
Almost all of the spam that now arrives is efficiently handled within a few minutes each day.
Happy chappy!
It’s a bit like those nuisance Marketing Phone Calls
Never, ever hang up!
Patiently wait while they explain they are not selling anything and who they wish to speak to.
Then say, hold on please I will get (person’s name)
Then, gently and quietly place the receiver down on the table. Do not yell, do not make any noise. Continue doing whatever you were doing before the phone rang.
When the marketer hangs up (you’ll hear the beeps), simply hang up.
The longer you can make them wait the better.
If every person in Australia did this, Marketing Phone Calls would be a thing of the past.
Telemarketers rely on making as many calls in as short a time as possible.
By putting the phone down(not hanging up) means the telemarketer is WAITING.
WAITING means time, time is their enemy.
If every household kept these telemarketers waiting endlessly, the companies would soon go out of business = end of nuisance calls.
If you are one of those people who is thinking, but what if a good caller is ringing, then don’t do it, continue getting nuisance calls that stop good callers getting through.
