No, we haven’t gone mad, we’re simply practicing what we preach, blog as often as you can.
How many blogs do we have, I hear you ask? Let’s call it 3 blogs, here’s why:
- Ripefruit Blog – the post you are reading right now is a business post explaining the reason behind three different blogs.
- KozBlog – this is my personal blog with posts about subjects from my perspective.
- OnlyAustralia – as senior editor of Australia’s largest publishing network.
Each post and blog has it’s own merits and purpose. I prefer to publish opinions from a business and personal level separately.
I have often said to clients that one of the best ways of encouraging Google to return to your web site on a regular basis is to add new content.
One of the issues clients has is creating new content when their business products and services have not changed.
Writing about the industry they are in is a perfectly acceptable way of adding new content. Comment on industry changes. Tell customers what’s happening in your world. Explain changes. Give your point of view. Remember, it’s your industry so you are perfectly placed to have an opinion and tell everyone about it.
Too many business people are adding content to Facebook, forgetting about their own web sites. How crazy is that! Write your new article and then Facebook it.
RIPEFRUIT BLOG
Business in our case relates the IT industry. We post about issues and products within the IT Industry like domain names, hosting, search engines, software as well as the technical aspects related to running and managing a web site.
KozBlog
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, provided you are not breaking any laws. Your point of view may differ from the world at large but at the end of the day it’s your opinion. Say it clear, say it loud and say it often. More than likely, you will be be simply commenting on a local issue or something that gets under your goat. Why not?
OnlyAustralia
Interesting one this. I am in the IT industry but I am also in the publishing industry which is a growing strong industry of its own. Publishing for many years has been ‘printed’ media but now the strong media publications are all online.
Blogging Tips
- Blog regularly – it’s too easy to forget, time slips by and before you know it you haven’t posted anything for a month. Set your calendar to remind you to post something ‘every’ and stick to it. If you see or hear something that would make a good subject, then go to your next reminder and make a note meaning you already have next post topic.
- Pretty Pictures – I’m not big on images with business posting so the image here is for effect as the right image can say a thousand words.
- Keywords and tags – if you use wordpress then every post can be tagged with keywords which means your posts become content, become indexable by Google.
- KISS – Keep it simple stupid and stick to what you know and your own industry. Yes, even a Melbourne Concreter posting about a good experience at a Preston Pizza shop regardless of how good it is, may be cutting it fine .
- Socialize It – after writing and publishing your post, add it to your social media. Tell the world that you have just written about XYZ.
